ADAC GT Masters

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport to take on ADAC GT Masters with a strong line-up.

  • Three customer teams with four Mercedes-AMG GT3s in 2021 ADAC GT Masters
  • Strong line-up with the next drivers’ title win after 2015 as the goal
  • Four Mercedes-AMG GT4s on the support package in ADAC GT4 Germany

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport will be charging in the super sports car league with four GT3 cars, all with a top driver line-up. They will be run by three Customer Racing Teams with plenty of experience in ADAC GT Masters competition. Team Zakspeed Mobil Krankenkasse Racing will be participating with two Mercedes-AMG GT3s, Mann-Filter Team Landgraf – HTP WWR and Toksport WRT will be chasing points with one GT3 from Affalterbach each. The line-up includes some of the world’s best GT drivers: next to Maro Engel, Luca Stolz, Maximilian Buhk (alle GER) and Raffaele Marciello (ITA), for instance, former ADAC GT Masters champion Jules Gounon (FRA) will be behind the wheel of a Mercedes-AMG GT3 as well. The season opener will take place at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben from 14th-16th May. In total, the teams will be competing in seven events in Germany, Austria and The Netherlands, each of them with two one-hour races. Furthermore, four Mercedes-AMG GT4s from the teams Besagroup Racing, Leipert Motorsport and Zakspeed will be on the grid in the ADAC GT4 Germany races.

Last year, the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Teams were able to rack up impressive single-race results in the ADAC GT Masters. In the season opener at Lausitzring, Maro Engel and Luca Stolz claimed the maiden win for the Toksport WRT Customer Racing Team in the team’s debut season and again finished on the podium the following day. Each of the other Mercedes-AMG GT3s in the field managed to score a race win, too: DLV-Team Schütz claimed first place at Sachsenring, Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing GT3 was first across the finish line at Lausitzring. And the final race of the season ended with a victory for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport as well, achieved by KNAUS-Team HTP-Winward. In the final ranking, Toksport WRT ended up in third place of the teams’ standings while the Engel/Stolz driver pairing also secured third place in the drivers’ standings. No other of the seven manufacturers that had entered the competition managed to score more race wins in 2020 than the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach.

Powerful driver line-up for the Mercedes-AMG customer teams
In the new season, the Customer Racing Teams are again relying on a powerful driver line-up that is not just to compete for race wins, but also has chances of winning the ‘International German GT championship’ title, awarded for the first time. With Maro Engel and Luca Stolz behind the wheel of the #22 Mercedes-AMG GT3, Toksport WRT is again relying on its successful duo from the previous season. Mann-Filter Team Landgraf – HTP WWR also has two experienced GT3 drivers with Maximilian Buhk and Raffaele Marciello in its number 70 car with the eye-catching mamba livery. Team Zakspeed Mobil Krankenkasse Racing will be participating in the 2021 ADAC GT Masters with two cars from Affalterbach. Behind the wheel of the #13 car, Jules Gounon, the 2017 champion and junior title winner, is making his comeback in the series. His teammate will be announced soon. The team’s second Mercedes-AMG GT3 will have Hendrik Still (GER) and youngster Constantin Schöll (AUT) as its drivers, both having already raced in ADAC GT Masters in the previous season.

Mercedes-AMG GT4 on the support package in ADAC GT4 Germany
The Mercedes-AMG GT4 will again be on the grid for the ADAC GT4 Germany races this year, all taking place at the same weekends as the ADAC GT Masters with the Lausitzring event the only exception. The winner of last year’s junior title, Jan Marschalkowski, will again be racing a Mercedes-AMG GT4 from Zakspeed. The team from Niederzissen will be running two Mercedes-AMG GT4s in this year’s season. Besagroup Racing and Leipert Motorsport will be running two further cars.

Stefan Wendl, head of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing: “ADAC GT Masters traditionally is a highly competitive series with strong teams and outstanding drivers. With our Customer Racing Teams, we again have a very good line-up this year to be able, like in the previous season, to celebrate both race wins and to be in contention for the title. In the drivers’ standings, the last time we managed to win the title was 2015 and in the teams’ standings in 2018, but it was as close as could be last season. Our teams with the Mercedes-AMG GT4 are again in a strong position, too, and have justified hopes for title success. We are happy that the action is finally getting underway again at Oschersleben this weekend and we wish all our customer teams the best of luck.”
