DTM 2024: Mercedes-AMG celebrates the manufacturers' title at the finale in Hockenheim.

  • 15th manufacturers' championship in the DTM for the brand with the three-pointed star
  • Maro Engel keeps the drivers' championship open until the last race of the season
  • Christoph Sagemüller: "Congratulations to everyone involved who contributed to this significant success."

The 2024 DTM season came to a crowning conclusion for Mercedes-AMG this weekend at the Hockenheimring in front of 95,000 spectators. The performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach secured the title in the manufacturers' classification of the prestigious racing series at the showdown on Sunday. The first championship for Mercedes-AMG since 2021 is also the 15th manufacturers' title for the brand with the three-pointed star, which has been competing in the DTM since 1988. In the drivers' championship, Maro Engel (GER) finished the season in third place as the best-placed Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver.

Mercedes-AMG went into the eighth and final race weekend as the leader in the manufacturers' standings with a 24-point lead. In the first race on Saturday, the Mercedes-AMG drivers collected 33 points for the manufacturers' classification. This extended their cushion over the runner-up to 38 points ahead of Sunday's race. In the final race, Auer (AUT), Engel and Maini (IND) scored 17 points between them. With this result, Mercedes-AMG secured the manufacturers' championship. A total of seven different manufacturers competed in the series. Mercedes-AMG finished the season as the best-placed brand with 434 points, ten points ahead of second place. With 13 podiums, Mercedes-AMG was also the manufacturer with the most podium finishes.

Maro Engel arrived at Hockenheim with a 20-point deficit in the drivers' standings. A total of 56 points were still up for grabs. The Mercedes-AMG Team WINWARD driver started the first race from ninth on the grid. He made up positions at the start and finished fourth thanks to a determined overtaking manoeuvre on title rival Mirko Bortolotti (ITA). The points difference of 20 points remained due to the positions of the Italian and the other championship contender Kelvin van der Linde (RSA). As a result, Maro Engel kept his mathematical chance of winning the title alive for the 16th and final race of the season on Sunday. After qualifying in 15th, he finished the race in tenth place. In the overall standings, this ultimately meant third place, 35 points behind champion Mirko Bortolotti.

Mercedes-AMG drivers with strong individual performances
The results of Lucas Auer and Jules Gounon (AND) were also positive on the final weekend at the 4.574-kilometre Hockenheimring. The Austrian qualified in second position on Saturday. In the first race, he fought a thrilling duel for victory with Kelvin van der Linde and was rewarded with second place. On the second day of the event, he started the race in eighth place in his #22 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Mercedes-AMG Team MANN-FILTER and crossed the finish line in the same position.

Jules Gounon stepped in at short notice for Mercedes-AMG Team HRT to replace Luca Stolz (GER) due to illness. In Saturday's race, he immediately set the fastest race lap on his DTM debut with a time of 1:38.332 minutes and finished sixth. On Sunday, he started from fourth position but had to retire from the race prematurely on lap 26 due to a puncture on the left rear tyre. In the second Mercedes-AMG Team HRT entry, Arjun Maini finished eighth and 13th to score points in both races.

Mercedes-AMG congratulates Mirko Bortolotti, SSR Performance and Lamborghini on winning the drivers' title.

"It was a very intense year in the DTM and I am delighted that we were able to bring the manufacturers' title back to Affalterbach. This is the 15th title for our brand in the history of this iconic series. Congratulations to all those involved who have contributed to this significant success. The DTM has established itself as an international platform. Therefore, we will once again be part of the series with Mercedes-AMG in 2025 and aim for all three titles."
Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport

"Our success in the manufacturers' classification shows that the Mercedes-AMG GT3 is a very competitive car and that we were well positioned with our teams. We scored points consistently with WINWARD and HRT and achieved the most podiums of all the manufacturers. The level of performance in the DTM is extremely high and to keep the drivers' championship open until the final weekend is a remarkable achievement by everyone involved."
Thomas Jäger, Sporting Director DTM

"Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to clinch the drivers' title this weekend, but we were in contention for the championship right to the end. A big thank you to Mercedes-AMG Team WINWARD, who provided me with an incredibly well-prepared car every weekend. The pit stop on Sunday alone was incredible. We can be very satisfied with our performance this year."
Maro Engel, Mercedes-AMG Team WINWARD #130

"The podium in the first race was a nice success that I've been working towards for a long time this year. I had a very good start on Sunday, but soon realised that the ten kilograms of success ballast from the previous day's result was having a big impact. It was difficult to defend myself in the closing stages. At the same time, it was important not to take any unnecessary risks for the manufacturers' standings. We successfully executed this tactical approach to the finish."
Lucas Auer, Mercedes-AMG Team MANN-FILTER #22

"I'm happy with seventh place in the championship, but I would have hoped for better results in the final. From twelfth on the grid, we got the maximum out of the first race with eighth place. Unfortunately, we didn't manage that on Sunday. The pace just wasn't there, which I can't explain. To have played my part in the Mercedes-AMG manufacturers' championship obviously makes me very proud. Thanks to my team for a good season."
Arjun Maini, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT #36

"First of all, many thanks to Mercedes-AMG and the Mercedes-AMG Team HRT for the opportunity to have competed in the DTM. We can't explain the slow puncture on Sunday. It occurred on the straight after turn seven. This retirement is a shame, because we could certainly have achieved a lot more. We showed in the first race that our pace was competitive. The DTM is a great racing series and I had a lot of fun."
Jules Gounon, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT #4

"It was of course disappointing to miss the final for health reasons. Many thanks to everyone for their understanding. We had a couple of strong weekends and it feels very good to have won a race in the DTM this season. Things didn't quite go to plan for me in the drivers' championship, but I'm pleased to have made a valuable contribution to the manufacturers' title with my results."
Luca Stolz, Mercedes-AMG Team HRT #4
