Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing looks back on the 2024 season with 56 titles and many prestigious individual successes. On 14 December, a large number of all active Mercedes-AMG teams, drivers and partners gathered at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. At the gala named ‘Champions United’, the winners of the brand-internal Customer Racing Championship were honoured and presented with exclusive prizes for their sporting achievements. Michael Schiebe (Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH), Christoph Sagemüller (Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport) and Stefan Wendl (Head of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing) congratulated the winners on stage in a festive ceremony. This marked a fitting end to an extremely successful season in the anniversary year of ‘130 Years of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport’.
Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Championship
The Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Championship, which was held for the first time in 2014, is a brand-internal championship. All Customer Racing teams and drivers of legal age who contested official races with a Mercedes-AMG GT3, GT4 or GT2 between October 2023 and October 2024 were eligible to participate. Entries with extended factory support were not included in the classification. Over 400 drivers and more than 100 teams competed in this year's Customer Racing Championship. Ten categories (eight driver and two team classifications) were organised. A total of 35 drivers and teams were honoured. There were two first places in the DRIVER GT2 as well as two third places in the PRO DRIVER GT4 categories due to equal points.
Points were awarded according to the 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1 system commonly used in international motorsport, with points being multiplied by a defined factor depending on the level and the respective format of the competition. In the drivers' championship, separate classifications were held for the GT3, GT4 and GT2 cars. The PRO DRIVER classifications took into account drivers with platinum, gold or silver status according to the FIA. In the DRIVER classifications, competitors with bronze status were considered. The classifications for the teams were divided into GT3 as well as combined GT2 and GT4. For the competition period, the top 3 drivers and the top 5 teams in each of the classifications were awarded high-quality prizes from cooperation partners Canyon, IWC, MSI, PUMA and RAVENOL.
Main prize of the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Championship 2024
The main prize in both the Overall DRIVER and Overall PRO DRIVER classifications was a Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé (combined energy consumption: 9.7 - 9.3 l/100 km | combined CO₂ emissions: 220 - 212 g/km*). Charles Dawson (GBR) and Russell Ward (USA) were delighted with the 330 kW (449 PS) two-door model. Charles Dawson achieved successes with Team Parker Racing in the British GT Championship and with the NM Racing Team in the GT4 European Series Powered by RAFA Racing Club. Russell Ward was victorious in the USA with Winward Racing in the Mercedes-AMG GT3. He won the GTD championship title in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
