FIA GT WORLD CUP

Macau Myth

The FIA GT World Cup on the streets of Macau is one of the most prestigious races in GT3 racing. Since 2008, GT3 cars have raced on the legendary Guia Circuit. Since 2015, the event has held the official title of FIA GT World Cup, with a Corona-related break between 2020 and 2022.

The event begins with two free practice sessions and a qualifying session to determine the grid positions for the qualifying race. The result of the qualifying race sets the grid for the main race.

Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing is the most successful manufacturer in Macau's 17-year GT3 history. We've taken eight wins in that time, four of them in the FIA GT World Cup era. Maro Engel won the main race in 2015, followed by Edoardo Mortara with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in 2017 and Raffaele Marciello in 2019 and 2023. All four victories were crowned with the manufacturer title, for which the results of the two best drivers of a manufacturer in the main race are counted. For five editions, since 2019, we have been unbeaten at the Guia Circuit.

The FIA GT World Cup is embedded in the Macau Grand Prix, which takes place every year in mid-November.

FIA GT World Cup 2024

The seventh edition of the FIA GT World Cup will take place between 14 and 17 November as part of this year’s 71st Macau Grand Prix. In 2024, 23 cars of six manufacturers will take on the challenges of the street circuit. As the record winner of the prestigious GT3 race, we will compete with a line-up of four Mercedes-AMG GT3s from three teams. Three-time Macau winner Maro Engel will be making his tenth appearance at the circuit and will drive the #130 of Mercedes-AMG Team GMR in our anniversary livery. Jules Gounon and Daniel Juncadella will compete for Mercedes-AMG Team Craft-Bamboo Racing. Junior Driver Ralf Aron will make his GT debut in Macau in the #7 Toro Racing car.

The defending champions of the Greater Bay Area GT Cup will also be on the grid. Last year, Darryl O'Young won in the #55 Mercedes-AMG GT3, but only GT4 cars will be allowed in 2024. The 28-car field includes seven Mercedes-AMG GT4s entered by three Customer Racing Teams.

FIA GT World Cup 2023

Raffaele Marciello contested his last race as an official Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver at the FIA GT World Cup in Macau after seven extremely successful years together. He concluded the collaboration with a perfect weekend: Best time in first practice, P2 in second practice, track record in qualifying (2:14.542 minutes) and lights-to-flag victories in the qualifying and the main race. He was the first driver to win the FIA GT World Cup twice – and also the first driver to successfully defend his title in Macau. In the qualifying race, Maro Engel completed a double victory by finishing in second place. Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing also took the Manufacturers' title.

We further won the Greater Bay Area GT Cup, which took place on the weekend before the FIA GT World Cup this year. Hong Kong driver Darryl O'Young took victory in the #55 Mercedes-AMG GT3 from the Craft-Bamboo Racing customer racing team.
